Hardware & identityPrototype
UraID
A fingerprint terminal that stores only hashed templates, never raw images.
The problem
Badges and passwords are easy to share or lose, and many biometric systems store raw fingerprint images, which is a serious privacy risk.
Approach
An embedded controller reads a fingerprint sensor over UART, extracts minutiae features, hashes them, and verifies against a stored identity record. Raw images are never transmitted or kept. It builds on the biometric attendance work I did at Uralink.
Key decisions
- Only non-reversible feature data leaves the sensor module.
- A hardware abstraction layer allows swapping optical and capacitive sensors.
Highlights
- Working hardware prototype of the capture and verify flow.
- Privacy-preserving by design.
Stack
- C / C++
- Python
- Optical fingerprint sensor
- Cryptographic hashing
