Shop Tumira Thumela
Cross-border e-commerce so family in South Africa can send goods to Zimbabwe.
The problem
People working in South Africa want to buy groceries and building materials for relatives in Zimbabwe and have them delivered directly, paying with local methods.
Approach
A storefront and a separate admin CMS, kept in one monorepo so they share types, validation and UI components but deploy independently. The first version (2019–2021) was a MERN-stack web and mobile platform with local payment gateway integrations; the current version is rebuilt on Next.js and PostgreSQL.

[ Admin CMS ] ──> [ Warehouse fulfilment in Zimbabwe ]Key decisions
- A Turborepo monorepo shares schemas and components between storefront and CMS.
- Checkout supports South African payment methods, with fulfilment handled from Zimbabwe-side warehouses.
- Role-based access in the CMS so warehouse staff only see what they need.
Highlights
- Live storefront at shop.tumirathumela.com.
- A native app I delivered earlier for the business reduced operational inefficiencies by about 30%.
- Mentored junior developers on the original team.
