Guard Check-in
Shift verification for security guards that runs entirely inside WhatsApp.
The problem
Guards often work on basic phones with limited storage and data. Asking them to install and learn another app means poor adoption and gaps in the shift record.
Approach
A Fastify service manages each shift as a state machine. Scheduled jobs send WhatsApp prompts at set intervals; the guard replies with a photo, which is stored with its timestamp. If a check-in is missed, an escalation flow alerts the site supervisor.

[ Guard replies with photo ]
│ no reply in time
[ Supervisor escalation ]Key decisions
- No mobile client at all: WhatsApp is the entire guard-facing interface.
- Prisma and PostgreSQL keep a durable audit trail of every prompt, reply and escalation.
- Scheduling is timezone-aware so night shifts and daylight changes do not skew intervals.
Highlights
- Guards need nothing installed beyond WhatsApp.
- Every check-in is stored as a timestamped photo for later audit.
- Missed check-ins escalate to supervisors automatically.
